Achieving scientifically demonstrable, altered states, stages, or levels of awareness through THERAPEUTIC MEDITATION are some of the ‘Super Foods’ which enhance the effectiveness of the mind (intelligence), the body, and the spirit.


The Alpha State is one in which you are relaxed and your brain wave frequency is reduced. Although you are awake and alert, you have slowed your brain wave activity considerably. This is the point where you are best able to explore your subconscious mind; the higher faculties of your mind operate optimally and you are open and able to receive and explore new ideas and information.


Progressive Relaxation Techniques are often helpful in achieving the Alpha level and can also be employed whenever you want to relax or sleep. They are also very beneficial in lowering bodily functions such as heart rate, respirations, blood pressure, and metabolic activity. All things are connected, and those things which promote healthy minds and bodies, are also beneficial to your spirit, emotions, and pocketbook.

The environment in which one meditates should be as tranquil and as free from distractions and interruptions as possible. Conversations, loud noises, doorbells, phones, device notifications, radio, TV, and etcetera.


Sitting comfortably, with your body in good alignment, is essential. This can be on the ground or floor with legs folded, in full or semi-lotus position, or simply in a chair with both feet flat on the floor. Place hands in lap or on thighs with palms facing up and fingers loosely separated. Do not be tempted to touch thumbs to any of the fingers or fingertips as this restricts, shunts, or blocks the free flow of energy through your body. CETHH also recommends breathing in and out through your nose, as slowly as possible, at all times – no matter what you are doing. See CEME manual.


You may wish to consider using meditation music containing certain frequencies, to help you relax and reach the alpha state.



Gently close your eyes. Place the tip of your tongue loosely against the roof of your mouth. Breathe as slowly as you can; pausing for several seconds between each inhalation and exhalation. With each cycle of breathing in and out, think the word ‘relax’ and allow your body to relax more and more deeply.


When you reach a level when you are feeling very relaxed, yet mentally alert, this is a good time to enter into Objective or Subjective Meditation.


Everyone is different. You may have to practice tis over and over again until you can achieve the Alpha State on demand. [For me, this takes three or fewer breaths.] You already know how to go to sleep, so don’t become discouraged. It may take a little time for you to learn how to relax completely, yet remain mentally alert. The results will be well worth the time and effort expended! Enjoy the experience.
